Bill Elstow remembers Hadwick’s Corner
during the Second World War:-
“During the war we had double
summertime which gave us long summer evenings and we used to
collect at Hadwick’s corner on a collection of old hay wagons
which had been drawn up onto the cleared bank so that they could
be used by the Home Guard to block the road in the case of an
invasion. They would have held up a Tiger Tank for at least a
nanosecond long before this term had come into common use!”
