In May 1995 Froyle, along with the rest of the United Kingdom, celebrated the 50th Anniversary of VE Day. As part of an exhibition to commemorate the occasion, a book of reminiscences from those people living in Froyle at the 50th Anniversary who were ‘on active service’ was compiled. It aroused considerable interest as part of the Home Front Exhibition in June and July 2005, and so we felt that it would be appropriate to feature some of the stories of those people doing their part for the war effort. Our ‘veterans’ were invited to take part in the opening ceremony of Froyle Fête & Flower Show on July 9th 2005. The picture above shows some of them just prior to the arrival of the fête procession.

The following pages record the great variety of experiences of just a few ordinary people during the Second World War.
