Great information resources - much appreciated. My ancestors were Savages (!) from Froyle and thanks to your site I can trace them back to the mid-1700s. I drive through Froyle frequently and it is nice to see some of the cottages my ancestors lived in are still there: Porch Cottage, what was the Malthouse next to the old shop and then the cottage down from that for example. Other surnames the Savages were connected to include: Gale, Thompson, Smeeth, Bramley, Russell, Trimming, Wolveridge and Beckhurst.

I would like to make contact with Brian Head as I have some family history information that may be of interest to him. The book Quilt Winders and Pod Shavers of 1979 by Barty-King made an incorrect statement about the connection with the "Midlands firm of Clapshaw and Cleave". These Clapshaws were indeed related.

THANKYOU so very much. Thanks to your info on the site I was able to track back my family tree. Sarah Robinson(married John Newell born Chawton 1782), daughter of Thomas Robinson and Mary Allam/Woolveridge was my 4th grt grandmother. With all the info you had on the site I was able to track connections to 1660's in Alton for the Allam family. And find out about how the families all connected together. Fantastic info, pics etc. Carrie
