Excellent site! I have managed to trace my husbands family back to early 1800.

The Smeeth's worked the land in Froyle for almost 100 years before moving on and dispursing around the country. They probably even worked for the owner of Froyle Place where my twin boys now attend school. The Smeeths have returned!

I would love to hear from any others tracing the Smeeth line.

Brilliant site so much information about Froyle unfortunately I still cannot locate details about my ancestor Bernard Burningham born 1798... Documentation shows he came from Froyle but I still need to find out who his parents were? Where they lived etc. If anyone has any details please let me know also anyone related via the Burningham family please contact me?

What a great site this is. I was begining to give up ever finding any evidence of my Grandfather GEORGE LANEY ever living in Froyle but through the Census pages on this site I located him. Never knew he had a brother (only knew of a sister named Kathleen) until looking at the church records and then visiting the Village for one of the reunions. What a great array of treasures of the past to see. Brought the First book Annette Booth wrote and she very kindly sent me the second book after telephoning my request. What great work both Chris and Annette have done.
Keep up the good work.

Interesting site. Looked in on the site as I met my wife at The Anchor in 1988; what more is there to say?!

I have fond memories of Froyle as I started my apprenticeshop there in 1953. I was a carpenter with Chapman Lowry & Puttick and started on the renovations of the House and Manor for the first six months or so. Then in early 1955 I returned and worked for a couple of years on the new Trelour's College and also lined out the Village Hall in Lower Froyle (beleive it has now been replaced)
What a wonderful site you have. I came to it to see if you had any information on the Knight family before 1871 and have struck lucky. My wife's Grandmother and Great Grandmother were both Knights and I now have them both. Thank you so much
